As we move through 2026 we are now starting to see different regeneration projects coming to fruition meaning Southport really will be the place to be and to invest.
First, we heard this week that Sefton Council has secured the £20m funding for renovation of Southport Pier, the second longest in the country. The pier had been closed for a few years due to health and safety risks but with the contractors lined up, renovation work should start shortly. Southport Pier
Second, we will soon have consultation events around regeneration of Southport's Town Hall Gardens, for which funding was secured. The aim is to create a family-friendly, child-orientated, and safe open-air performance and gathering space as a lasting tribute to the people of the town following the tragic events of July 2024.
Sefton has also succeeded in securing Arts Council funding for a programme of cultural events spanning 2026 and 2027. Find out more about the award here and how InvestSefton is supporting businesses in the programme of events here.
Finally work on the Marine Lake Event Centre (MLEC), a £73m investment project, is continuing this year with the contractors assigned and work due to start soon.
With all this good news it seems that the Lord Street Living project is very timely as good quality residential accommodation will become more important to support the regeneration of the town centre. While Lord Street is the key focus area of the project, we encourage owners with properties nearby to get in touch if they want to get involved. There are 12 zones included in the initial phase which are approximately set out in the image below. However, we welcome owners and investors coming forward if they have vacant properties nearby to start discussions with the team. If you have space that has never had a residential use please get in touch.
As Southport is on the up so are the opportunities for local owners and investors.
